The city of Phrygia is one of the High Cities of Alera, namesake for the house of Phrygius, one of the two Shieldwall cities of Alera. The current leader is High Lord Phrygius Guntus.

The city is located in the extreme North-East of Alera, bordered by the Sea of Ice on the East and the Shieldwall on the North. See Maps for Codex Alera Series

Shieldwall

Shieldwall

Along with Antillus on the far west, the Legions and Citizenry of Phrygia maintain and man the Shieldwall, the massive bastion between the Aleran people and the Gadrim-Ha Tribes of the North — known in Alera as the Icemen.

The Legions protecting the city and manning the Shieldwall are the First, Second and Third Phrygian. These legions are almost unceasingly occupied with the constant assaults of the Icemen

The House of Phrygius[]

The House of Phrygia is stable, unlike the House of Kalare. High Lords Antillus and Phrygia are friends. They are both staunch supporters of the lawful rule of the House of Gaius, even if they are none too fond of Gaius Sextus himself.

House Colors[]

"the white-and-green livery of the House of Phrygius"[1]

As the seat of the House of Phrygius, the city and surrounding territories bear the colours of the House of their High Lord. The colors of the House of Phrygius can be deduced to be Glacial Green and White.

"the similarly veteran Legions of High Lord Phrygius, its standards sheathed in glacial green-and-white fire…"[2]

Legions[]

The Legions protecting the city and manning the Shieldwall are the First, Second and Third Phrygian. These legions are almost unceasingly occupied with the constant assaults of the Icemen. As such, the Shieldwall Legions see a comparatively large amount of action. As such, their legionares are viewed as some of the most veteran in Alera.

Ruling Family[]

  • High Lord Phrygia Guntus and High Lady Phrygia (but she was killed in Ceres by Kalarus Brencis in book 3, Cursor's Fury)
  • Eldest Son, not named
  • Phrygius Cyricus, the second son of High Lord Phrygius, "and seneschal of the city [of Phrygia] while his father was in the field" (First Lord's Fury ch 25)
"Phrygius Cyricus, Seneschal of Phrygia and commander of its defending Legions, was sixteen years old. He was an almost painfully thin young man, dressed in the white-and-green livery of the House of Phrygius, and his dark hair was untidy enough to merit an assault from some kind of elite barbering strike force." (FLF, chapter 25)
  • Phrygiar Navaris, an illegitimate daughter, never acknowledged by Lord Phrygia her father. This eats at her. She’s a singulare in the service of Senator Arnos. She is one of the best fencers in Alera; Tavi rates her as one of the top ten or twelve, while Max places her in the top six or seven.[3]
